In February this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on Twitter that the electric car manufacturer is working to bring Steam, game management, support and delivery software to its vehicles.
After concerns and problems, the company has officially deployed Steam integration for the latest versions of the Tesla Model S and X as part of the holiday update.
The entertainment information system on Tesla's two electric vehicles can now play Steam Beta and high- Graphics games like Cyberpunk 2077.
The "new" model S and X that Tesla mentioned could be the Plaid versions, which began shipping last year. The entertainment information systems of both models use AMD's RDNA 2 graphics card, a graphics processing technology equipped for PlayStation 5 players and AMD's Ryzen chips.
However, by adding Steam to its vehicles, Tesla has not just added one or two games to the development list. The electric vehicle maker said in its announcement that the integration would bring thousands of games in Steam's warehouse to their vehicles.
Elon Musk's company has previously encountered problems with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for allowing people to play games even while driving and having to disable the feature. Currently, the ability to play games will be locked while the car is moving.
In addition to Steam integration, Tesla's update also gives owners direct access to Apple Music on the vehicle. It also gives them the ability to schedule for the Light Providing and viewing their cabin cameras from the Tesla app.
