Threads has now reached 300 million users, with over 100 million daily active users — Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the news in a Threads post, confirming that the platform's strong growth momentum continues.
Zuckerberg previously predicted that Threads had a good chance of becoming Meta’s next app to reach 1 billion users. While it’s still a long way from that goal, Threads’ growth seems to be accelerating recently.
Threads hit 100 million users last fall, and by early November, that number had grown to 275 million.
In 2024, Threads was the second most downloaded app, behind only the shopping app Temu - the top app on the App Store charts.
Threads is expected to see some big changes as Meta capitalizes on this impressive growth. The company will reportedly begin testing ads on Threads early next year.
Threads isn't the only platform gaining attention as an alternative to X, however. Bluesky has also seen significant growth over the past few months, with its user base doubling in November to over 25 million users (though daily active user figures aren't yet available).
The meta is also taking inspiration from some of Bluesky's features, including starter packs and custom feeds, to ensure more comprehensive competition.
The growth of Threads and Bluesky will certainly have a big impact on the social media space with a variety of choices for users.
