In the "Settings and privacy" section, users will have a tool that will allow them to adjust the sliders to signal that they want more or less about specific topics in the "For You" video display on TikTok.
The topics included creative art, current news, huries and more. The slips are placed at the initial default average, and users can adjust from there.
TikTok's "Dedicated to You" section is famous for its high personalization, based on user data. It makes it feel like the algorithm can predict your preferences.
Over the years, TikTok has deployed a variety of features to help users feel they can control their algorithms.
The no care button on the video is designed to let the system know that you want to see less of that content. And users can also completely block some keywords from their news feed. Last year, TikTok also started testing a way to reset the "For You" section to start over the way videos are displayed.
It is not yet clear how effective the adjustment of the slicks will be. In the past, this type of tool did not always strongly affect the content suggestion system.
For example, a previous study on YouTube's "not like" button shows that the algorithm continues to recommend similar content regardless of user feedback.
