According to Reuters, the lawsuit was sent by Bytedance - TikTok's parent company - on August 15 with the main content of protesting against the US Government over its baseless admissions about the relationship between this application and China.
Bytedance said that the company has rented servers from multinational computer technology corporation Oracle (USA) to store data of American people. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that TikTok will pose risks to national security by providing information to China .
TikTok is facing a ban if Bytedance does not completely divest from the US before January 19, 2025. The ban was issued by President Joe Biden on February 24, 2024 because the main purpose is to limit the activities of Chinese applications in the US.
After receiving the lawsuit, the court decided to hold an additional hearing on TikTok's legal challenges on September 16 and a decision on the fate of this application in the US is expected to be made in November. .
However, TikTok is being supported by two candidates for the 2024 US presidential election. Mr. Donald Trump said he would not support a ban on this application and he has a TikTok account with more than 3 million followers.
As for Vice President Kamala Harris, she sees TikTok as a tool to support her election activities and also began participating in July.
Previously, TikTok was accused of deceiving American users about data security issues. This allegation states that TikTok did not let American consumers know that employees of parent company ByteDance had access to their personal and financial information.
In addition, the US Department of Justice also sued TikTok for violating children's rights last month. This app was found to automatically collect personal information from children without notifying parents or guardians.
