Currently, TikTok accounts for adolescents are protected by more than 50 separate features and settings, helping them to be creative, connect and learn in a safe environment.
With a series of new updates, TikTok not only improves the safety experience for young users, but also accompanies families in maintaining open and regular conversations about digital security, privacy and online behaviors.
New display tool for parents
In the latest update, TikTok introduces a series of upgraded features in "Family Pairing" to help parents better understand their children's account activities.
One of the features that is in the testing phase is the ability to send notifications to parents when their children post videos, photos or stories in public mode. The goal is to create conditions for parents and adolescents to openly discuss publicly shared content, without affecting their creativity or independence.
Many adolescents said that they appreciate the companionship of parents in the process of learning and adjusting privacy and safety settings.
In response, TikTok has added a feature that allows parents to view the privacy options their 16-17 year old children are setting up, such as allowing others to download videos or using Duet and Stitch features. For users aged 1315, these options are disabled by default and cannot be changed.
In addition, a feature previously announced by TikTok that allows teens to notify parents about reporting a video - has now been widely rolled out globally.
Parents wont see the specific content their child has reported, but the feature is designed to make it easier for young people to start online border and safety conversations with trusted adults in their lives.
Other updates
TikTok has also launched the Manage Topics feature, allowing users to adjust the display frequency of content in more than 10 popular topic groups from art, tourism to sports...
Through the Smart Family feature, parents can view topics that their teenagers have chosen to shape their data sources.
With better observation of content preferences, families can connect through topics they are interested in on TikTok, as well as content and creators that make the whole family excited and inspiring.
Adding blocking control to Smart Family
Previously, TikTok added a Smart Family feature that displays a list of accounts that teenagers have blocked. Now, the platform continues to upgrade protection with a new tool that allows parents to directly block specific accounts that they consider unsuitable for their children.
When an account is blocked, that user will not be able to interact with the teenager and the content from that account will not be displayed on their data source. Teens can still submit a request for unblocking, but the final decision will belong to parents.
