China develops future technology

China will promote the development of emerging industries and future technologies.

China will focus on developing emerging key industries such as integrated microchip manufacturing, aerospace, medical biotechnology and "low-fly economy" - the field of exploiting low-fly space for activities such as unmanned aerial vehicles, logistics and urban services, according to CGTN on March 5.

In addition, the Chinese government also identified a number of future technology fields that need to be prioritized for development, including new generation energy, quantum technology, brain-computer interface, 6G telecommunications technology and especially embodied AI. AI embodies with a "body" interacting directly with the real world, instead of just operating in software. Unitree Robotics' robots performing martial arts recently are an example, but their "encarnation" level is only in the early stages.

According to the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan (period 2026 - 2030), China will accelerate the development of emerging strategic industries in the next 5 years. These fields include new generation information technology, new energy, new materials, connected smart electric vehicles, robots, biotechnology medicine, high-tech equipment and the aerospace industry.

The draft also emphasizes the formation of new economic growth drivers through pioneering technology fields such as quantum technology, biotechnology, hydrogen energy, fusion energy, brain-computer interface, embodied artificial intelligence and 6G mobile network.

China will also promote fundamental innovation and seek breakthroughs in core technologies in key areas. The goal is to accelerate the building of science and technology autonomy, reducing dependence on external technology sources.

The draft plan states that China will apply special measures to achieve decisive progress in the entire technology chain in areas such as integrated microchips, machine tools, high-end measuring equipment, platform software, advanced materials and biotechnology.

China is also building 3 international-level science and technology innovation centers and developing them into world-class "creative locomotives", playing a role in promoting technological and economic growth in the coming period.
