Apple has just officially introduced the iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone model ever with a thickness of only 5.6 mm, marking the biggest design change in the past eight years.
The Cupertino, California launch event attracted attention when CEO Tim Cook quoted Steve Jobs's famous saying: For us, design is not simply the look or feel of something. Design is also its way of operation".
Design and hardware technology
The titanium frame and Ceramic Shield glass help the iPhone Air to be slightly thin but still retain high durability. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8 mm), Apple's new device is even thinner.
Inside the thin shell, Apple has streamlined the motherboard to the size of just a few stamps, thereby optimizing battery capacity, a factor that many people are interested in.
Another highlight is that the iPhone Air is equipped with the A19 Pro chip, Apple's most powerful processor line, optimized for artificial intelligence tasks.
In addition, the device also has two custom communication chips, promising to improve performance and connectivity.
Evaluation from the technology world
As soon as the iPhone Air appeared, the Steve Jobs Theater audience rang out with applause.
Gaurav Chaudhary, a technology YouTuber with nearly 24 million followers, commented: The titanium frame and ceramic safety glass make the device both beautiful and sturdy. Even though I heard the leak before, I was still really impressed when I held it in my hand.
However, he said more time is needed to verify the battery life that Apple announced.
Analyst Paolo Pescatore (PP Foresight) said that the appearance of iPhone Air brings a new breeze to the iPhone segment, in the context of the smartphone market lacking a breakthrough in design.
Limitations and concerns
One of the controversial points is that the iPhone Air has only one camera, while the iPhone 17 has two cameras and the Pro versions have three. This has led many to question whether Apple is exchanging the photography experience for record thinning.
In addition, Apple's failure to introduce any outstanding AI features in this launch has many experts worried that the company will be slower than Google, which has strongly integrated Gemini artificial intelligence into new devices.
Sales expectations and market strategies
According to Ben Bajarin, CEO of Creative Strategies, the iPhone Air could be a sales boost in the year-end shopping season, while helping Apple regain market share in China, where domestic rivals have quickly launched ultra-thin smartphones.
IDC forecasts that the iPhone Air will be average in the new product line, $100 lower than the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Nabila Popal, senior research director at IDC, commented: Air will be selling better, not only because of its reasonable price but also because it replaces the Plus line, which previously accounted for 5-7% of Apples sales.
Although there are still many questions about the battery and photography capability, the iPhone Air is expected to become a new symbol of design innovation, affirming Apple's familiar statement: thin, light but strong.
