Gemini has a great influence in Southeast Asia
On the afternoon of July 14, Google announced that the number of users operating on the Gemini application in Southeast Asia has more than doubled in the past year. Accordingly, the region has a faster rate of receiving Gemini than any other Google application. This application has also risen to become the most searched AI (artificial intelligence) assistant in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
This achievement contributes to the milestone of 900 million monthly active users of the application globally. This impressive growth is driven by the young, tech-savvy population of Southeast Asia - with nearly 40% of the population under 25 years old - along with Gemini's superior local language processing capabilities.
Data from Google shows some notable trends in the application of Gemini in the region. Accordingly, young people are the main generation of users. Compared to other age groups, they make more requests, maintain longer conversations and write commands with much higher levels of detail.
In addition, nearly 70% of commands in the region were sent in their mother tongue, led by Vietnam (89%), Thailand (87%) and Indonesia (84%).
In addition, nearly 3/4 of the requests sent to Gemini across the region originated from mobile devices. About 40% of queries asked Gemini to create completely new products, typically images, music, videos and document drafting.
Vietnam leads the region in responsible Gemini application in academia
According to Google, Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in both frequency of use in academia and the rate of local language application on Gemini. Accordingly, Vietnam owns the highest native language usage rate in the region, with 89% of commands sent in Vietnamese. Playing an important bridge to reach the global market, Vietnamese users rely on Gemini's translation and localization capabilities more than any other country in Southeast Asia.
From classrooms to programming labs, Gemini has become a powerful companion for Vietnamese students, educators and technology talents. The mainstream trend shows that Vietnamese users lead Southeast Asia in applying AI to learning responsibly, in which academic activities account for 17% of the total number of commands.
More than 160,000 students use the Gemini Canvas Exam Preparation tool every month, while educators create 55,000 requests related to teaching support every day.
Vietnam is also in the group of leading countries in the region in terms of the number of requests related to programming support and mathematical thinking on Gemini. Notably, nearly one-third of the total interaction takes place on computer platforms, showing high concentration and technique in tasks that Vietnamese users are collaborating with Gemini.
