Facebook is taking another step forward in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to users' messaging experience.
Accordingly, Meta's owned application has just launched a testing version of "Writing Help" on the Android beta version, allowing AI to support editing, suggesting and changing the tone of messages.
This new feature is expected to make it easier for users to compose messages, from basic grammatical errors to rephrasing sentences in the desired style.
After entering a few words, users will see a small pen icon appear instead of the familiar sticker icon. When clicking the icon, the message will be sent to Meta AI to process and suggest three different versions with tones such as professional, humorous, friendly or supportive.
Users can select, edit, and send, while recipients will not know that the content is AI-powered.
Notably, Meta affirms that the Private Processing technology integrated into this feature will ensure data security. Requests are encrypted and anonymous, not stored on the server or cannot be traced back to users.
This helps strengthen trust in security, which is an important factor for widely used messaging apps worldwide.
Currently, Writing Help is only available on the WhatsApp beta version 2.25.23.7 through the Google Play Beta program, with a limited number of users.
Before the official release, Meta is expected to continue testing, refining and adding additional side features such as amation.
In the context of many messaging apps looking to integrate AI to enhance the experience, this move by WhatsApp is considered a strategic step.
It promises to be useful for many situations: from composing professional messages in work communication, adding witty in intimate conversations, to supporting users when they are confused about how to express them.
However, Google also emphasized that this was just an option and was turned off by default. AI will only support when users proactively activate on each specific message, instead of interfering with the entire conversation.
If widely deployed, Writing Help could become one of the important features, contributing to shaping the way people communicate through the world's most popular messaging platform.
