How to eat dinner to reduce kidney damage

Kiều Vũ |

Dinner plays an important role in overall health, especially kidney function.

Although the kidneys work continuously day and night, eating too salty dinner, too much protein, or too many processed foods can increase the metabolic burden on this organ.

Therefore, building a reasonable dinner is a simple way to help protect the kidneys for a long time.

The first principle is to limit salt. Many studies show that a diet high in sodium increases the risk of high blood pressure - one of the leading causes of kidney damage.

Therefore, dinner should reduce dishes such as pickled vegetables, bacon, sausages, instant noodles, canned food and overly salty dipping sauces. Instead, you should prioritize fresh food and use natural spices such as onions, garlic, ginger, and herbs to enhance the flavor of the dish.

The second principle is to eat a moderate amount of protein. Protein is very necessary for the body, but when metabolized, it will create waste that the kidneys must filter out.

For people at risk or suffering from kidney disease, eating too much meat at dinner can increase pressure on the kidneys. Nutrition experts recommend prioritizing moderate portions from fish, lean meat, skinless poultry or tofu instead of meals rich in red meat and animal organs.

In addition, increasing green vegetables and whole grains is a beneficial choice for kidney health. An ideal dinner plate can include half vegetables, a quarter lean protein and a quarter healthy carbohydrates such as brown rice or oats. This division helps provide enough energy without making the body consume too many calories in the evening.

Preparation is also very important. You should prioritize boiled, steamed, stewed or pan-fried dishes with little oil instead of deep-fried dishes. Foods high in saturated fat not only affect cardiovascular health but also indirectly increase the risk of kidney dysfunction over time.

You should also not eat dinner too late or too full. A light dinner, ending about 2-3 hours before bedtime, will help the body digest better and support weight control. Maintaining a reasonable weight, stable blood pressure and healthy blood sugar are important factors to help protect the kidneys for a long time.

To reduce harm to the kidneys, dinner should be low in salt, sufficient in protein but not excess, rich in green vegetables and limit processed foods. Small changes in daily eating habits can bring great benefits to kidney health in the long run.
