Scientists believe that oxidative stress is one of the important mechanisms causing liver damage, especially in people with fatty liver, drinking a lot of alcohol or a diet rich in processed foods.

One of the most notable active ingredients of basil is eugenol - a compound that creates a distinctive aroma. Some experimental studies show that eugenol has the ability to reduce inflammatory reactions and support protecting cell membranes from oxidative stress.

Basil also contains vitamin K, vitamin A and plant polyphenols that are beneficial for metabolism.

In fact, many people use basil water as a refreshing drink in the summer. A simple formula is often applied including:

A handful of fresh basil leaves; 2 slices of lemon; 300-500 ml of filtered water. You can add a few slices of cucumber or mint.

Soak or grind gently and then drink cool, without adding too much sugar. From a nutritional perspective, this is a type of water that helps replenish water, antioxidants and create a comfortable feeling in hot weather.

However, according to liver and gallbladder experts, the liver works through a very complex metabolic enzyme system and needs to be protected by a general lifestyle rather than relying on a single type of food.

A common mistake today is abusing "detox water" from herbs and drinking it completely instead of filtered water. This can cause the body to lose nutritional balance or consume too much vegetable essential oils.

With basil, if used in excessive quantities for a long time, people with a sensitive digestive system may experience stomach irritation or a slight burning sensation.

To support a healthy and sustainable liver, the most important thing is still to limit alcohol, control weight, get enough sleep and maintain a diet rich in green vegetables, fiber and natural foods.
