Some types of seafood
Many natural seafoods have high purine content, easily causing uric acid to accumulate in the blood. Eating too often can increase the risk of gout recurrence. People with high uric acid should eat in moderation and consider choosing a more suitable protein source.
Animal organs
The liver, intestines, heart or kidneys contain a very high amount of purine. When purine is metabolized in the body, it will create uric acid, thereby easily triggering acute gout attacks. People with high uric acid should minimize this food group.
Cheese and whole milk
Whole milk products contain a lot of saturated fat, which can affect the kidney's ability to excrete uric acid. Instead, you should prioritize low-fat or non-fat milk to still supplement enough calcium and protein for the body.
High-sugar drinks
Soft drinks, soda, or juices high in fructose can stimulate the body to produce more uric acid. Replacing it with filtered water or sugar-free drinks will help better control uric acid.
Refined starch
White bread, pasta, pastries or refined carbohydrate-containing foods easily cause blood sugar to rise rapidly and affect the kidney's ability to excrete uric acid. Replacing whole grains will be more beneficial for controlling uric acid and overall health.
Alcohol
Alcohol, especially beer and spirits, can hinder the uric acid excretion process and promote the body to create more of this substance. Even when drinking in moderate amounts, the risk of increased uric acid can still occur. Therefore, people prone to gout should limit or completely avoid it.
