The event took place within the framework of Vietnam Elevator Expo 2025 - the largest elevator exhibition in the country. The event attracted the participation of many management agencies, international organizations and enterprises in the elevator sector, showing the urgent need for a new set of standards, synchronous and suitable for practice.
Currently, the TCVN system for elevators in Vietnam mainly focuses on safety requirements in design and installation - that is, the stage before putting them into use. This is an important platform to help control the quality of equipment in the market. However, these standards have not yet covered the entire life cycle of elevators, especially in the stages of operation, maintenance, repair and instructions for use - which are factors that directly affect the safety of tens of millions of users every day. In the context of rapid urbanization and the rapid increase in the number of elevators in apartments, offices, and shopping malls, this standard gap requires urgent completion.

The TCVN/TC178 Technical Department has drafted a new set of standards on "Technology - General requirements in operation, maintenance, repair and use", aiming to standardize the operations of the entire industry, while improving safety in operation. Consulting with businesses and international experts is considered a key step to complete the draft. Representatives from Korea and China - countries with standards and elevator monitoring systems for development - shared their experiences in building a synchronous standard framework, from design to operation, helping to reduce risks and increase the life of equipment.
The strong development of elevator advertising has created pressure in parallel with the elevator industry in general: without standardization, these two fields will continue to grow in a state of "ough people do it", lack of synchronization and potential risks.
At the seminar, many businesses expressed their hope that the new elevator operation and maintenance standards will integrate additional separate regulations related to auxiliary equipment such as advertising screens, accompanying power systems, sensors and specific safety requirements in narrow spaces. This is also a proposal supported by both domestic and international experts.
Vietnam Elevator Expo 2025 - the venue for the seminar - brings together more than 1,000 booths on an area of nearly 18,000m2, from elevator and escalator businesses, to supporting industries such as mechanical engineering, architecture and digital advertising. The event is considered a rare opportunity to connect three entities: management agencies - enterprises producing and operating elevators, creating a foundation to build a safe, transparent and sustainable elevator ecosystem.
The appearance of a new TCVN draft for the elevator industry shows that Vietnam is proactively changing its approach: from design management - installation to management throughout the equipment life cycle. In the context of the boom in digital technology and DOOH advertising, adding standards for elevator advertising operations is a necessary step to avoid "leaving an empty space" in a rapidly developing but not yet standardized field.
The early issuance of the new National Standard not only helps improve the safety of elevator operation but also creates a clear legal corridor for activities related to the elevator sector - an important "touch" of modern urban areas, contributing to a convenient, safe and civilized experience for people.
