According to the new low pressure forecast from the Philippine Meteorological Agency (PAGASA), a low pressure area formed on January 13 entered the country's responsibility area this morning, January 14.
The low pressure area is highly likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
Forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours, the low pressure may strengthen into the first tropical depression or storm of the Philippines in 2026. In this case, this will be the first storm to form in January, since 2029 according to Philippine meteorological statistics.
According to PAGASA, when the official low pressure area strengthens into a tropical depression and enters PAR, the system will be named "Ada" according to the list of storm names and tropical depressions in 2026 of the Philippines. If strengthened into a storm, this will be storm No. 1 in 2026.
Forecast models show that low pressure/tropical depression Ada tends to move in a northwest direction, approaching or making landfall in the Eastern Visayas and Bicol regions from Friday to Saturday.
Then, the tropical depression is likely to change direction, moving northeast, in a scenario similar to some storms forming near the East Sea in recent years.
During the movement, widespread heavy rain is forecast to occur in many areas of central Philippines, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides, especially in coastal and mountainous localities.
Strong wind warnings may be issued early in some areas of Mindanao and Visayas, depending on the next developments of the low pressure.
However, the Philippine meteorological agency emphasized that forecasts are still uncertain, especially about intensity and trajectory after the system strengthens. People and tourists are advised to closely monitor updates on low pressure, tropical depression and storms in the coming days.
