How to make vegan cheese at home

Vegan cheese helps you maintain a plant-based diet while still being delicious and full of nutrients. Here's how to make it.

What is vegan cheese?

Vegan cheese is dairy-free and does not use any animal products in its making. In recent years, vegan cheese has begun incorporating a variety of ingredients to mimic the smooth, creamy texture of traditional dairy cheese. Nuts, especially cashews, are great ingredients for vegan cheese because of their richness.

How to make vegan cheese

Ingredient:

- 100 grams of peeled and diced potatoes

- 100 grams of sweet potatoes, peeled and diced

- 2 cloves garlic

- 30 grams raw cashew nuts (soaked)

- 15ml apple cider vinegar

- 30ml nutritional yeast

- 2.5 grams onion powder

- 2.5 grams of salt

- 35ml extra virgin olive oil

- 35ml water

Making:

- Place the diced potatoes in a pot and add cold water to cover by about 1 inch.

- Add a little salt to the water and bring to a boil.

- Reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 8 - 10 minutes.

- Rinse and place potatoes in a blender, then add garlic, cashews, apple cider vinegar, nutritional yeast, onion powder, salt, olive oil and water.

- Blend the mixture until a smooth texture is achieved.

- Served with tortilla chips/chips/nachos.

Note: Remember to soak raw cashews for at least two hours before using for this recipe to help the cashews break up more easily when mixed with other ingredients.
