In the latest episode of Perfect Piece, viewers are listening to a very true life story about a couple who have been together for more than 40 years, together facing health upheavals that seemed impossible to overcome. Mr. Tran Van Chuc once experienced a critical heart attack, while Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuong Hoa was diagnosed with stage II cervical cancer in October 2022. Two diseases, two fragile fates, but they chose to face each other with calmness, optimism and especially not leaving each other.
Opening the program, Mr. Chuc recounted the moment of life and death when he suddenly collapsed and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. "The doctor said I was very lucky, just a little slower and I could fall into a vegetative state," he shared. Meanwhile, Ms. Hoa also went through a period of anxiety while waiting for the results after the cancer surgery. Although her body was still weak and unable to eat normally, she still tried to maintain a positive spirit, seeing each passing day as a gift.
When MC Dai Nghia gently asked: "When you discover your illness, what is the most solid thing for you?", Ms. Hoa did not hesitate to answer: "That's my husband". According to her, Mr. Chuc's simple saying: "If you have a disease, treat it together, treat it as far as possible" helped her not fall into panic, but calmly enter a long and challenging treatment journey.
Not only accompanying each other spiritually, the couple is also attached to each other through their passion for cycling. There was a period when Mr. Chuc temporarily stopped cycling because he was afraid that his wife would feel inferior and affect her health, so he chose to go alone on other roads. Only when Mrs. Hoa gradually recovered did the two continue to accompany each other. Although they no longer conquer the long distances as before, the slow rotation every day has become a familiar part of their lives.
Answering Dr. Bui Hong Quan's question about the longest distance ever traveled, Ms. Hoa said that the couple had cycled from Ho Chi Minh City to Ca Mau and then continued to Can Tho, a total of more than 500km. After listening, Dr. Quan emotionally commented: "The most precious thing is not how long the distance is, but that the two of you always have each other on every stage of life.
Not only now, from a young age, their love story has also had many special features. Ms. Hoa recounted that when she was a student, she often wrote letters to a friend who went to the army. Those letters were accidentally read by Mr. Chuc. From then on, he boldly wrote letters to get acquainted. When he was discharged from the army, he went to find Ms. Hoa but missed the beat because of difficult communication. It took a long time for the two to meet again and recognize each other from the first time, even though they had never met before.
After more than 40 years together, they have a grown-up child, who is currently working abroad and always supports their parents' passion. That child also donated two high-end bicycles brought from abroad - a gift that made Mrs. Hoa unable to hide her emotion. For them, it is not only a means of transportation, but also a symbol of the family's bond.
