Volleyball athlete Nguyen Thi Xuan competed at the same time as Ngoc Hoa, Kim Hue or Pham Thi Yen. However, compared to her colleagues, she is considered a "late blooming flower", it was not until the age of 26 that she was recognized by experts and fans.
The female main attacker from Nam Dinh came to volleyball in 2001. In the early days, she did not have many opportunities to show her talent. In 2012, Nguyen Thi Xuan was newly called up to the national team to compete in the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship Cup, gradually shining and making her mark.
In 20 years of attachment to volleyball, the female athlete has had many different experiences and levels of emotions. According to Nguyen Thi Xuan, the biggest mark in her career is the national championship in 2012.
Efforts and perseverance after more than 2 decades, by April 2025, the veteran main attacker decided to retire from professional volleyball, focusing on his family life.
Regarding life outside the arena, Nguyen Thi Xuan and her husband met in 2004 when both were athletes. Her husband used to be a beach volleyball player, after retiring from competition, he moved to work at the Lam Dong Procuracy.
In 2012, the couple moved into the same house after 8 years together. In 2018, Nguyen Thi Xuan gave birth to her first son. At that time, the former main attacker felt so difficult and pressured that she wanted to quit her job. But thanks to her love for volleyball and the companionship of her family, especially her husband, Nguyen Thi Xuan continued to play.
Because he used to be an athlete, he understands the nature of his work. Although he is a life partner, he also regularly shares his expertise with me.
I once decided to retire after giving birth, even all the things related to volleyball have been taken to relatives and friends. But my husband was the first person to tell me: If you can and still have passion, just come back to play. Family and childcare work, I will support you to the fullest.
Therefore, in 2018, 9 months after giving birth, I returned to playing football. Later, due to constantly playing away from home, he sacrificed himself and retired to take care of his family. Currently, he is an official at the Procuracy in Lam Dong. It can be said that my husband is the first motivation to help me always try, strive and compete," Nguyen Thi Xuan once shared with Lao Dong.
During his playing time, the former Quang Ninh team striker rarely stayed with his family, only returning home for about 1 month after each tournament. On average, Nguyen Thi Xuan returns home about 3-4 times a year. Therefore, her husband often takes his son to the North to visit his mother.
Her husband's sacrifice made Nguyen Thi Xuan decide not to pursue a coaching career after retiring. She wants to return to her loved ones, spending all her time making up for her husband and son.
