Necessary luggage parents need to prepare for their children before entering grade 1

Khánh Linh |

August is the time when parents are busy preparing for their children to enter the new school year, especially in families with children entering 1st grade.

In the early days of August, the atmosphere of preparation for the new school year at stationery and bookstores has begun to become bustling.

Holding a set of 1st grade textbooks and a series of school supplies in her hand, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - a worker in an industrial park in Phu Tho - could not hide her worry.

She shared that for the whole week, the family has been restless because they are afraid that their child will not keep up with his friends, because at kindergarten, the baby mainly just plays and sings.

This is not only Ms. Hoa's psychology but also the common feeling of many parents who have children preparing for grade transfer.

The turning point from preschool to elementary school is a very big change in the environment, discipline as well as the way children receive information.

At this stage, children will have to switch from care, mainly play, to a disciplined and learning environment.

Therefore, practicing lifestyle and self-reliance skills is a decisive factor to help children not be psychologically "shocked". They cannot stay up late and wake up late like in the summer months.

Sharing about this issue, teacher Vi Thi Hang in Khanh Khe commune, Lang Son province said that parents need to start adjusting their children's biological meters right now.

Specifically, families should train their children to sleep before 9:30 pm and wake up at 6 am so that the body gradually gets used to it, avoiding fatigue and drowsiness in the first days of going to class.

Along with that, self-service skills such as finishing eating in 30 minutes, going to the toilet properly, and tidying up books after watching them are the most practical basic lessons that parents need to patiently practice for their children every day.

Notably, currently, many parents have a mentality of "forcing maturity", rushing to find pre-primary classes for their children to practice beautiful handwriting and learning math from many months ago. In fact, stuffing knowledge too early often brings unwanted consequences.

This teacher also said that students who have learned the program in advance often have a subjective, negligent and lack of concentration in the first lessons because they think they know everything. In the long run, this stiffens their curiosity, making children easily lose interest in exploring new knowledge.

Instead of forcing children to hold pens and practice writing in stress, parents only need to train their children in a neat sitting and learning posture, and standard pen handling to avoid school-acquired diseases such as nearsightedness and scoliosis.

More importantly, train your child to focus on doing something specific, such as sitting coloring or folding shapes for 15 to 20 minutes without being distracted.

Finally, a feeling of excitement and comfort is the "golden key" for children to confidently step through the gate of elementary school. Parents should regularly chat, draw for their children a truly vivid and happy picture of the new school. There are not only blackboards and chalk but also thoughtful teachers, a schoolyard shaded by trees and many new friends.

On weekends, families can take their children to visit the elementary school that their children are about to attend, introduce them to the scenery and playground so that they feel closer and more familiar.
