On days when the weather changes, children are very prone to runny noses, mild coughs, rash fever or fatigue. Many parents are worried to the point of frantically looking for medicine, while in reality, in cases of minor illnesses, what children need most is proper care and a comfortable environment for the body to recover on its own.
Below are simple but extremely effective small tips to help your child overcome minor illnesses more gently.
1. Keep warm properly, don't cover it too tightly
Many parents are afraid that their children will get cold, so they wear too many layers, covering them tightly with blankets, causing their children to sweat, their bodies to become more tired, and they are more likely to have a high fever. Keep your neck, chest, and feet warm, and keep the room airy.
2. Give your child water little by little but regularly
When sick, children are very easily dehydrated without parents realizing it. Instead of forcing children to drink a lot at once, give them small sips, continuously throughout the day. You can use warm water, oresol water in the correct dose, or diluted broth.
3. Give your child easy-to-digest snacks without forcing them to eat too much
Children who are sick often lose appetite. Forcing children to eat can cause them to vomit or be afraid of meals. Prioritize thin porridge, soup, milk, soft fruits. Eating less but dividing meals will help children absorb more easily.
4. Take a quick warm bath if your child does not have a high fever
Many people absolutely abstain from bathing, but in fact, quick bathing with warm water helps children stay clean, comfortable and sleep better. The important thing is to bathe quickly, dry immediately and avoid drafts.
5. Clean your nose so your child breathes easier and sleeps better
Runny nose makes it difficult for children to sleep, or to be fussy. Parents can instill physiological saline and gently suck their nose. When the airway is clear, the child will eat and sleep significantly better.
6. Create a quiet space for children to rest
The body recovers fastest when children get enough sleep. Limit noise, turn off the big TV, avoid letting children play too much. A deep sleep is sometimes more effective than taking medicine.
7. Don't abuse medicine when your child is only slightly sick
Many parents see that their child has a mild cough and immediately give them antibiotics. This is extremely dangerous because antibiotics cannot treat viruses and can cause drug resistance. If your child is only slightly ill, monitor and take care of them properly.
8. Monitor abnormal signs to take your child to the doctor in time.
If the child has a continuous high fever, rapid breathing, refusal to breastfeed, lethargy, abnormal rash or frequent vomiting, parents need to take the child to the doctor immediately. Don't be subjective because there are cases that initially only resemble a mild cold.
Petty illnesses are something that almost every child experiences. But if parents are calm, take care of their children properly and monitor them carefully, their children will overcome it much more easily. The most important thing is not to panic and not to arbitrarily use strong medicine when not necessary.
