The fiber and pectin in grapefruit act as prebiotics, feeding beneficial bacteria in the gut. Eating grapefruit in the morning or before meals not only helps with better digestion but also supports weight control," Lubeck explained.
Grapefruit is also rich in water, improving dehydration and reducing bloating and flatulence. However, people with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) should be careful because the acidity of the fruit can cause discomfort.

The antioxidant polyphenol in grapefruit helps fight free radicals, dilate blood vessels and maintain normal blood pressure. However, people who are taking statins should limit eating grapefruit or grapefruit juice because it can increase drug levels in the blood, leading to side effects.
