On the morning of December 24th of the lunar calendar, when many families are busy preparing the final stages for Tet, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Dung (25 years old, working in Hanoi) is completing the schedule for a Tet that she calls a reasonable split.
Just finishing the unfinished work, Dung calculated: "This Tet, I will still return to my hometown of Thai Binh, from the 27th to the 2nd day of Tet. The rest of the time I will spend traveling.
Dung said that she always considers going home for Tet as indispensable.
Parents in Thai Binh, only have the opportunity to have enough siblings all year round. Staying at home from the 27th to the 2nd is enough to clean up, worship New Year's Eve, and wish relatives a Happy New Year," she shared.
But instead of staying in her hometown until the end of the holiday, Dung decided to spend the days after the 2nd day of Tet on a trip to the highlands with friends.
In the first days of the year, I want to be in a really different place. Not to skip Tet, but to change the atmosphere. I have had a year of unremitting effort, I consider the trip as a reward for myself after a hard year," she laughed.
The destination that Dung and her group of friends chose was the old Ha Giang province (now Tuyen Quang province). Before that, they had considered Sa Pa and Mu Cang Chai, but in the end chose the Ha Giang route because they wanted to experience the feeling of New Year's backpacking.
Room rates have nearly doubled compared to normal days, but going after the 2nd day will be easier than the peak of the 3rd or 4th day," she calculated.
According to records from travel agencies, the trend of "eating Tet in two stages", including short trips home and then traveling, is popular in the 25-35 age group.
They still maintain family reunion, but at the same time consider long vacations as an opportunity to explore.
Dung admitted that the way her generation celebrates Tet has changed a lot.
My parents used to be almost at home all holidays. But we want to be more flexible. As long as we still keep important moments like New Year's Eve, the first day of Tet," she said.
According to forecasts from the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of some Northern provinces such as Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Son La, Phu Tho, from December 26th to the end of the 5th day of Tet, the number of visitors flocking to highland areas is forecast to increase sharply. Pass roads are potentially congested.
When asked what made her most excited, Dung replied briefly: "On New Year's Eve, I am with my family. After that, I want to stand on a mountain peak, look down at the valley and think about a truly open new year.
