Some familiar drinks such as green tea, tomato juice... can help reduce bad cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health.

Benefits of Drinks Rich in Antioxidants and Fiber

High cholesterol is a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. In addition to maintaining a healthy diet, adding certain drinks every day can help balance cholesterol levels, improve blood vessel health and support the cardiovascular system.

Green tea is considered a popular choice thanks to its catechin content, an antioxidant that helps reduce bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Pomegranate juice also shows good ability to increase HDL cholesterol and reduce LDL. Meanwhile, orange juice and citrus fruits thanks to their polyphenol content can completely reduce cholesterol.

According to Dr. Jeffrey S. Lander, MD, a cardiologist at Atlantic Health System (USA): Drinks rich in antioxidants not only help reduce cholesterol but also help blood vessels become more flexible, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.

Good alternatives for heart health

Some plant milks and juices also have significant benefits. Oat milk is rich in beta-glucan soluble fiber, which helps limit the absorption of cholesterol in the blood. Soy milk is low in saturated fat and has been shown to reduce LDL and total cholesterol.

In addition, beetroot juice contains betanin and flavonoids that help lower LDL and increase HDL, which is especially helpful for people with high blood pressure. Pineapple juice with the enzyme bromelain helps break down cholesterol plaque in the arteries. Blueberry and cranberry juice are also prominent thanks to anthocyanins and pectin, soluble fiber that help improve lipid profiling.

Whole cocoa drinks are rich in flavonols that reduce LDL cholesterol. Meanwhile, tomato juice provides lycopene and niacin, which help reduce blood fat. Yogurt supplements containing sterol and stanol have also been shown to prevent cholesterol absorption.

Nutritionist Jen Bruning, MS, RDN, LDN, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, recommends: adults should supplement a variety of juices and plant milks, gradually replacing sugary or fatty drinks to support long-term cardiovascular support.

Combine a healthy lifestyle for optimal efficiency

Although drinks play an important role, they cannot replace a scientific lifestyle. Experts recommend combining regular exercise, getting enough sleep, managing stress, limiting sugary drinks, alcohol and avoiding smoking.

A rich diet, along with choosing drinks rich in antioxidants, fiber and vitamins, will bring more comprehensive effects in controlling cholesterol and protecting the heart.
