According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS Bui Thi Nhung (Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, Head of the Nutrition Department of Sun Hospital), the liver is the organ responsible for metabolizing protein, fat and carbohydrates.
Therefore, prolonged unscientific eating habits can cause the liver to overwork.
1. Apply an extreme weight loss diet
Many people choose diets low in carbohydrates, rich in protein, or drastically reduce a group of substances to lose weight.
According to experts, this is not a safe weight loss method if applied for a long time. An unbalanced diet will change metabolism and increase the burden on the liver.
2. Eating too much protein or reducing too much starch
Protein needs should only account for about 13 - 20% of total dietary energy, while starch should account for about 50 - 65%.
Increasing protein intake too high or reducing carbohydrates too low is not recommended. Maintaining the rate of unreasonable substance groups for a long time can affect liver metabolic function.
3. Eating too much soft drinks, milk tea and fast food
Experts recommend not to use soft drinks, milk tea, candies, fast food and fatty foods regularly.
These are foods that easily increase the risk of overweight, obesity and fatty liver. Consuming too much sugar also forces the liver to increase fat metabolism.
4. Believe in unfounded detoxification methods
Many people believe that detoxification methods are needed to cleanse the liver. However, according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thi Nhung, the body already has a natural detoxification mechanism through the liver, kidneys and excretory system.
Instead of chasing unproven trends, people should avoid extreme diets that affect liver metabolic function.
