Recently, the Government's Electronic Information Portal published Decree No. 207/2025/ND-CP, regulating the birth of children using assisted reproductive technology.
Accordingly, single women in Vietnam will officially have access to assisted reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg freezing if they wish.
Thus, the previous Decree 10/2015 stipulating that single women have the right to give birth via IVF when prescribed by a specialist will expire. That is, from now on, women only need to wish to be eligible to do this assisted reproductive technique.
giving women the right to proactively decide to have children
Ms. Thu Huyen (32 years old, Hanoi) said: "I completely support this regulation. Women will have the right to take the initiative to become mothers without being bound by health. This is more in line with the trend of modern society, when more and more women do not want to get married but still want to have children born by themselves".
According to Ms. Huyen, many women are "difficult" to get married because they have not found a suitable partner or are not ready for committed relationships after marriage. Meanwhile, some others only want to be single mothers to be free in raising children.

"Many women have the financial capacity and conditions to give birth and raise their children alone without any obstacles. Meanwhile, not everyone wants to get married, so I think single women having the right to proactively give birth using assisted reproductive technology is a very positive change, which will be supported by many people," Ms. Huyen said.
Tu Anh (24 years old, Hung Yen) also believes that this is a decision that is in line with the modern trend of the world.
"For a long time, there have been many countries in the world such as the US, Sweden, France, Spain... that allow women to decide to have children and be single mothers. I think this is the right thing, as long as those single mothers live responsibly with their children, capable of taking care of them both materially and spiritually," said Tu Anh.
In addition, Tu Anh added that this regulation not only helps women who do not want to get married but also same-sex couples have more opportunities to have children without being bound by marriage or health.
catching up with modern trends
Talking to Lao Dong, Dr. Nguyen Binh Duong - Head of the Hong Ngoc Truong Minh Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology - expressed his approval of Decree 207/2025. The doctor said: "Having children is a civil right of women, a sacred responsibility and should be respected. Every woman, whether married or not, should have the opportunity to be a mother. This is both good for her mentality, good for her health and good for the community."
According to Dr. Nguyen Binh Duong, this regulation will help women have more motivation to go to assisted reproductive facilities to have children, while reducing the pressure of public opinion that was somewhat prejudiced about "not having a husband but getting married" before. In addition, allowing single women to become pregnant also shows the determination of the state to increase the birth rate in Vietnam.

The doctor added: "Although there are no complete statistics, observations in society show that the rate of single women is increasing, especially in the group of intellectuals and income earners. Due to the nature of work and study, they have not found a satisfactory partner or do not have time to get to know each other, leading to singles.
These are people with good financial conditions, high education and the ability to take care of children. Giving them the opportunity to become mothers helps reduce the burden of population and avoid the situation where they get married too late, reducing the chance of having healthy children".
However, according to the doctor, to give single women the right to self-determination to have children, it is necessary to solve a number of problems such as: The child born will be disadvantaged because they do not have a full and true family; difficulties in terms of time, finances, causing a feeling of overload and exhaustion because women have to take on two roles; the lack of vision of a father with a young psychology...
"Socio-ultural studies show that children who grow up from single mothers are more likely to suffer from psychological problems such as depression, anxiety disorders, insomnia, difficulty in studying or are more likely to become criminals," the doctor cited.
Regarding the increase in the rate of single men and women after the new Decree, Dr. Nguyen Binh Duong expressed little concern.
The doctor commented: "Having children through assisted reproductive techniques is still expensive, not an affordable choice for the majority of people. With a cost of about 100 million VND, not everyone can spend it to make this their choice".
In addition, egg stores - reproductive preservation is a more popular, cheaper technique and allows women to delay giving birth until they find a suitable partner, which is still a popular alternative. Therefore, it is often only when there is no hope to find a partner due to age or conditions that single women switch from egg storage to embryoscopy to have a single pregnancy.
Doctor Nguyen Binh Duong informed that currently, the rate of egg retention is increasing, often found in women aged 34 and over who are educated, have economic conditions and are not married because they have not found a suitable person. In addition, there are women over the age of 42 who store eggs right after divorce.
The doctor said that egg storage is a insurance package, allowing women to reduce time pressure, especially those close to the age of 35. This helps women have more time to find a suitable partner, be more confident in themselves and plan for life.
