On the morning of September 14, SCMP reported on a new phenomenon that is causing controversy and attracting public attention in China: training courses that teach women how to become attractive and prevent their husbands from having affairs.
Accordingly, last July, a group of women gathered in Hangzhou city, Zhejiang province to participate in a two-day training program.
Here, they participate in lectures and activities aimed at enhancing their ability to seduce and keep the fire burning in their sexual life and marriage.
The course's promotional poster states: “Sex appeal is about women taking control of their lives,” a view that goes against the conventional wisdom that sex is a private, sensitive matter.
It is known that to participate in this course, each person needs to pay a fee of 400 USD (about 9.8 million VND). The goal of the students when coming here is to improve their own charm and prevent their husbands from having affairs.
The first day of the course focuses on lectures on the “nature of love” and bedroom techniques. On the second day, activities include learning how to kiss, dance sensually and how to seduce your husband in intimate situations. Participants are also guided through role-playing exercises to improve their ability to express seduction.
According to SCMP, most of the participants are women aged between 35 and 55. Some of the reasons they come to this training camp include concerns about their own declining attractiveness, or marital problems such as infidelity and divorce.
For example, a 54-year-old woman shared that she felt attracted to a female classmate of her son and felt insecure about her own attractiveness. Another said that her husband had been having an affair and she was facing the possibility of divorce.
The slogan of the training camp “Reignite passion in marriage, revive your sex life” has attracted the attention of many women, making them believe that the course will bring real results and believe in the ability to maintain charm even in middle age.
The camp is run by a company called Sex Appeal Academy. The instructors call themselves “sex and intimacy therapists,” but no information about them or the academy can be found on the official website of the Chinese Sexology Association.
One of the instructors, known as Elves, has 120,000 followers on Douyin, but there are no details about how they are trained.
Che Xiaoyan, director of the nursing committee at the Chinese Sexology Association, said that all registered sex therapists in China must undergo formal training in hospitals or through courses organized by the Chinese Sexology Association.
“They have multidisciplinary training, including sexual medicine and human anatomy, and are registered practitioners of sex therapy,” Mr. Che asserted.
However, this training camp still faces much criticism from the Chinese online community.
One Weibo user said that this is an unethical business that exploits vulnerable women and exploits their self-consciousness for profit. Another said that middle-aged women can improve their attractiveness by reading books and pursuing education.
This course continues to spark widespread debate about methods for improving love life and marital relationships.
