Retirement age in 2025
According to current regulations in Article 169, Clause 1, Article 219 of the 2019 Labor Code and Decree 135/2020/ND-CP, from January 1, 2021, the retirement age of employees in normal working conditions is 60 years and 3 months for male employees and 55 years and 4 months for female employees.
After that, it will increase by 03 months each year for male workers until reaching 62 years old in 2028 and by 04 months each year for female workers until reaching 60 years old in 2035.
Thus, the retirement age in 2025 for employees in normal working conditions is as follows:
- Male worker at 61 years and 03 months
- Female employee is 56 years and 08 months.
However, the law also stipulates some cases of early retirement compared to the above age.
So what are the conditions for early retirement from 1.7.2025?
Cases of early retirement at 5 years
According to the provisions of Articles 64 and 65 of the Law on Social Insurance (SI) 2024, the following cases are eligible for early retirement at the age of 05 (ie male employees are 56 years and 3 months old; female employees are 51 years and 8 months old at the time of retirement)
(1) Employees who have paid compulsory social insurance for 15 years or more when working in a heavy, toxic, dangerous or especially heavy, toxic, dangerous job or job on the list of heavy, toxic, dangerous or especially heavy, toxic, dangerous jobs or working in an area with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, including working time in a place with a regional allowance coefficient of 0.7 or higher before January 1, 2021;

(2) Employees with a period of compulsory social insurance payment of 15 years or more who have a reduced working capacity from 61% to less than 81%;
(3) Officers and professional soldiers of the People's Army; Officers, non-commissioned officers, officers and non-commissioned officers of the People's Public Security;
People working in secret services receive salaries such as soldiers; non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the People's Army; non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the People's Public Security serving for a limited period;
Military, police, and cryptography students studying are entitled to living expenses (also known as those working in the military, police).
Cases of early retirement at the age of 10 (male workers are 51 years and 03 months old and female workers are 46 years and 08 months old at the time of retirement)
Articles 64 and 65 of the Social Insurance Law 2024 also stipulate cases of early retirement at the age of 10, including:
(1) Employees who have been working in underground coal mining for 15 years or more as prescribed by the Government;
(2) People working in the military or police with a total period of compulsory social insurance payment of 15 years or more when working in a heavy, toxic, dangerous or especially heavy, toxic, dangerous job or job on the list of heavy, toxic, dangerous or especially heavy, toxic, dangerous jobs or working in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, including working time in areas with regional allowance coefficient of 0.7 or higher before January 1, 2021;
(3) Employees with a period of compulsory social insurance payment of 15 years or more who have a reduced working capacity of 81% or more.
