3 questions to be answered in the final episode of “When the phone rings”

The Korean drama “When the Phone Rings” is coming to an end with intriguing and controversial developments.

Based on a popular online novel, MBC's Korean drama "When the Phone Rings" tells the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple who get into an arranged marriage. But their estranged relationship begins to change after a threatening phone call.

With only 2 episodes left to end, "When the Phone Rings" still has questions that the audience needs answers to and cannot guess the ending.

Will Hong Hee Joo return to Baek Sa Eon?

In episode 10, after realizing Baek Sa Eon's deep and unwavering love, Hong Hee Joo "proposes" to her husband, bringing their relationship to a new milestone.

But before she could have a happy time, Hee Joo was kidnapped for the third time by the “real Baek Sa Eon” (Park Jae Yoon). In a desperate attempt to protect Sa Eon, Hee Joo drove the kidnapper off a cliff.

Sa Eon begins a search for the missing Hee Joo. He causes a stir when he holds a press conference, revealing that he is not the “real Baek Sa Eon” - the son of presidential candidate Baek Eui Yong. He also publicly announces that Hee Joo is his legal wife, asking reporters and the public to help find Hee Joo.

This plot has been changed from the original story. In the original novel, Baek Sa Eon faked his death to protect his wife, but in the drama, the screenwriter changed it, the one who sacrificed herself to protect her husband was Hee Joo. Therefore, whether Hee Joo will survive or not is still an open question.

Who is behind the male and female protagonist's incident?

The fate of Sa Eon and Hee Joo is closely related to the interests of the two families.

Although the kidnapper was identified as the “real Baek Sa Eon” - who was once tried to be killed by Baek’s grandfather because he was a psychopath and liked to kill. But when he and Hee Joo drove off the cliff together, the audience suspected that he still had someone else behind him.

And the most suspected person is the mother of the “real Baek Sa Eon”. She discovered that her biological son was still alive and even went to his hiding place. So it is highly likely that she helped her son escape when the car crashed into the ravine, making it impossible for the police to find him. Hee Joo was probably also imprisoned by her.

The audience is also curious about the attitude of Hong Hee Joo's adoptive father - Hong Il Kyung - in the last 2 episodes. Will Mr. Hong take any decisive action against the Baek family after learning the truth that the "real Baek Sa Eon" is still alive and that his daughter Hong Hee Joo was kidnapped by him?

What will be the ending of the "real" and "fake" Baek Sa Eon?

The identity of the “real Baek Sa Eon” has been revealed, but the fate of the “fake Baek Sa Eon” (Yoo Yeon Seok) is still a question that makes the audience curious. When Hee Joo's life is threatened, will Sa Eon sacrifice himself to save his wife?

After admitting his identity, Sa Eon's position as the presidential office spokesman will definitely be affected. Many viewers speculate that after everything is over, Sa Eon will no longer do this job and go into "reclusion", living a happy life with Hee Joo.

According to the original story, because Sa Eon was not born as a child, Hee Joo later gave him a new name.

The last two episodes of "When the Phone Rings" will air on the evening of January 3-4 on MBC and Netflix.
