Thu Phuong once had a broken marriage with singer and musician Quang Huy (commonly known as Huy MC). The two got married in 1993 and had two children, Duy Hai and Thanh Thao.
After settling down in the US, Thu Phuong and Huy MC gradually broke up. In 2007, the two announced their peaceful divorce, the female singer was raising two children.
During her time as a single mother in a foreign country, Thu Phuong met and developed a relationship with Clarence Dung Taylor, commonly known as "Mr. Dung Taylor".
