“The Priests 2: Dark Nuns” is a female version of the 2015 hit film starring Kang Dong Won and Kim Yoon Seok - "The Priests". "Dark Nuns" tells the story of nuns performing an exorcism to save a boy possessed by an evil spirit.
Song Hye Kyo, who showed off her dramatic acting transformation in “The Glory” and won the Best Actress award at the Baeksang and Blue Dragon Film Awards, will return to the big screen as a nun named Junia.
Junia is a brave and determined nun who will stop at nothing to save the possessed boy Hee Joon.
According to the media, with a stern and cold appearance that conceals her serious sincerity, Song Hye Kyo gave a nuanced performance, bringing to life a character unlike any she has played before.
To add to the intrigue, she forms an unlikely bond and teams up with Sister Michaela (Jeon Yeo Been). Together they embark on a dangerous journey, risking everything in their quest to save the boy.
Director Kwon Hyuk Jae commented: "Every word, expression and look of Song Hye Kyo as Sister Junia becomes a prominent visual element in the film."
Song Hye Kyo also commented on how she completely immersed herself in the role: "I lived like Sister Junia for 3 months, only thinking about the character."
Previously, at the film production press conference, Song Hye Kyo confessed that she felt pressured when choosing the next project after "The Glory", because she had received a lot of love from the audience.
Song Hye Kyo considered many genres in many different scripts, hoping to see a different side of herself. Finally, "Dark Nuns" came to her like "destiny".
Song Hye Kyo also shared about the challenges of taking on the role: “The highlight was the exorcism scene. It was really difficult to remember the prayer. I had to practice memorizing the lines as soon as I opened my eyes, while taking a shower and washing dishes, to make sure it could pop out at any time.
When filming a scene fighting an evil spirit, my body sometimes became stiff. I also had frequent nightmares. It was a difficult job both physically and mentally.”
“The Priests 2: Dark Nuns” will officially launch on January 24, 2025.
