We are all trying here" revolves around the story of Hwang Dong Man (Koo Kyo Hwan) - a director who has spent 20 years pursuing his filmmaking dream but is still stuck in a feeling of failure. When he sees his friends around him all succeeding, he believes that he is the only one "worthless".
Before the movie aired, director Cha Young Hoon admitted the pressure when the work had to compete for viewership ratings with "Perfect crown" featuring IU and Byeon Woo Seok, along with the legal film "Phantom lawyer" by Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom in the weekend slot.
I am quite nervous. The programs in the same time frame are all very good and have their own unique features. I just hope my film can touch a part of the audience" - the director expressed.
Meanwhile, Park Hae Joon (as Dong Man's older brother) shared: "I once achieved the highest viewership rate in my career at this station with'Marriage World'. This return, I expect to continue to reach new record numbers".
Speaking more about the work, the director said that the main character carries within him "jealousy, inferiority and anxiety - very human emotions". The appearance of companion Byun Eun Ah (Go Yoon Jung) makes Dong Man gradually find a way to escape that vicious circle.
However, the work does not follow the familiar success motif. "This is not a story about a failed person becoming a box office king. It's like a gentle encouragement that everyone is struggling in their own way and you are not alone" - the director said.
The project bears the imprint of screenwriter Park Hae Young - who stands behind works such as "My Uncle", "My Freedom Diary"... highlighted by its slow storytelling, focusing on vulnerable people and the journey to seek peace.
Sharing about the movie, Koo Kyo Hwan said he was attracted from the first time he read the script. "The more I learn, the more I feel Dong Man is like a real person who exists. If he is real, I want to make a movie with him" - the actor said.
Meanwhile, Go Yoon Jung said that she approached the character in her own way: "When reading the script, I realized that Eun Ah has many silences. I want to fill those gaps so that the relationship between the two characters does not become monotonous.
The actress added that thanks to Koo Kyo Hwan always bringing new reactions in each scene, her emotions on the film set also become more natural.
Regarding the message of the work, Go Yoon Jung said that she was particularly impressed with a line in the script: "There is no such thing as a good emotional block. That makes me think that I need to accumulate more positive emotions to become a good emotional block myself.
