According to Allkpop, to promote the upcoming Korean drama “Newtopia”, the two main actors Jisoo (Blackpink) and Park Jung Min answered an interview with ABS-CBN New, sharing interesting information about the project.
When asked why they agreed to participate in “Newtopia”, Jisoo shared: “I have watched many zombie movies over the years, and I feel that most of them are dark and serious.
But “Newtopia” combines comedy, romance and other elements against the backdrop of a zombie outbreak. It maintains this diversity while still maintaining an element of unpredictability. I think audiences will find it unique and engaging.”
As for Park Jung Min, he answered briefly: "I only have one reason: Jisoo" and immediately asked to move on to another question, making Jisoo laugh.
Jisoo further explained that she and Park Jung Min first met when they both had cameo roles in the movie “Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman” (airing in 2023).
At that time, Jisoo was busy with her tour schedule (with Blackpink), and would have to take a day off to film, so she hesitated about the offer. But when she learned that Park Jung Min was also accepting a cameo role, Jisoo agreed.
Similarly, the reason Jisoo agreed to participate in the project “Newtopia” was because she knew Park Jung Min was in it. She wanted to see Park Jung Min’s acting up close.
“Newtopia” is adapted from the novel “Influenza”, telling the dangerous love story of late-enlisting soldier Lee Jae Yoon (Park Jung Min) and his girlfriend Kang Young Joo (Jisoo), as they “race” through the zombie-infested city of Seoul to find each other.
Talking about the similarities between herself and the character she plays, Jisoo shared that it is "determination when making a decision".
As for Park Jung Min, he considers himself a rather calm person, but the character Jae Yoon always goes overboard and messes things up.
“Newtopia” will premiere on February 7 on Coupang Play and Amazon Prime Video.
