According to Koreaboo, on January 31, JYP Entertainment's new boy group KickFlip held a 41-minute YouTube livestream at the group's practice room.
During the livestream, the members greeted fans and interacted with fan comments like most other group livestreams.
The KickFlip members then brought up their previous performance on “Idol Radio.” KickFlip admitted that they did not dance well to TWICE’s “Cheer Up” during the random dance challenge.
KickFlip said they were poorly prepared, especially since the songs were randomly chosen. Coupled with the nervousness of performing the dance challenge in front of so many fans, KickFlip's performance of the "Cheer Up" choreography was criticized as superficial.
During the livestream, the KickFlip group kept bowing their heads and saying, "We're sorry." The rookie idols blamed themselves and promised to redo the cover after the livestream.
However, KickFlip's actions have caused controversy. Many people believe that it is normal for idols to not dance well in the random song dance challenge, so KickFlip does not need to apologize to TWICE.
The audience suspected that this was a media "trick" that JYP intended for KickFlip to attract attention. Some even speculated that even the superficial dance to "Cheer Up" was a plan that JYP had drawn up for KickFlip in advance.
Korean audience comments:
“JYP should drop this. It's clearly viral marketing”
“This is too much. Is this a PR stunt?”
“I think this was intentional. Because of the apology, this rookie group became famous in all online communities. If it wasn’t for marketing purposes, there’s no reason for JYP to make the members apologize. JYP has been in this industry for so long. They know what they’re doing.”
KickFlip is a 7-member boy group consisting of Amaru, Donghwa, Keiju, Juwang, Minje, Donghyun and leader Kyehoon. The group officially debuted in January 2025 with their first mini album “Flip it, Kick It!” and the title track “Mama Said”.
