Vietnamese movies gradually cool down
"The Four Guardians", "The Billionaire Kiss", and "The Ghost Lights" are the top 3 Vietnamese films at the box office.
These films are currently showing between 2,000 and 3,000 times a day. With such a number of showings, Vietnamese films almost overwhelm foreign works (which only have a few dozen to a few hundred showings).
"The Four Guardians" and "The Billionaire Kiss" were released on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025, but up to now, they have "cooled down" as the number of moviegoers has decreased significantly. From daily revenue of tens of billions of VND, the films are currently earning 3-5 billion VND per day.
On February 13 alone, the movie "The Four Guardians" had 1.9 billion VND in revenue, and "The Billionaire Kiss" had 2.9 billion VND in revenue, according to Box Office Vietnam.
"Den Am Hon" (directed by Hoang Nam) also shows signs of cooling down after its release. The film has faced much controversy from the audience about its quality and the acting of the cast has been criticized. However, because it does not have to compete with blockbusters, "Den Am Hon" still has the advantage of good screening times and ticket sales.
Will the box office landscape change?
The films "The Four Guardians", "The Billionaire Kiss", and "The Ghost Lights" have an advantage in being released at a time when there are no foreign blockbusters. Therefore, audiences are more likely to buy tickets to see Vietnamese films.
Meanwhile, in the coming time, Vietnamese theaters will have 3 foreign blockbusters from Thailand, Korea and the US... This will cause a big change in the domestic box office situation.
Three foreign films, "Captain America", "Rider: Ghost Delivery", and "Dark Nuns", will be released in Vietnamese theaters from now until February 20. The most notable of these is the Hollywood blockbuster from the billion-dollar Marvel brand - "Captain America" released from February 14.
When these blockbusters are released, screenings will have to be divided equally between foreign and domestic films, so revenue will change greatly.
Currently, "Captain America" is being praised by audiences and experts. Therefore, this blockbuster is considered a rival that hinders domestic films in their journey to conquer higher milestones in revenue.
This 2025 Tet movie season, the quality of Vietnamese movies is still a controversial topic with audiences, most of the movies released in theaters are criticized for their weak scripts. Apart from the 3 projects mentioned above with good revenue, Kaity Nguyen's "Love by mistake for a best friend" is completely overshadowed in theaters and is at risk of heavy losses.
