According to Soompi, the upcoming mystery film “The Priests 2: Dark Nuns” has just announced its official release date, along with a new poster.
“Dark Nuns” will be a female version of the 2015 film “The Priests,” starring Kim Yun Suk and Kang Dong Won. The film attracted 5.44 million viewers, a huge box office success.
The success of “The Priests” has created high expectations for its female-centric spinoff, “Dark Nuns.” The upcoming film will tell the story of nuns who perform exorcisms.
Song Hye Kyo plays Sister Junia, a brave and determined nun who steps in to save a young boy's life. No method seems to help or work on the boy, who is in great pain, but Sister Junia bravely refuses to abandon the suffering child.
Jeon Yeo Been plays Sister Michaela, who becomes a nun to help Sister Junia out of curiosity. Despite the chaotic and confusing situation, Sister Michaela decides to help Sister Junia no matter what.
Lee Jin Wook plays Father Paolo, a priest and psychiatrist who believes that medicine can cure the boy, while Moon Woo Jin plays Hee Jun, a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit.
The newly released poster depicts Junia and Michaela walking somewhere with a boy who is being tormented by evil spirits. However, their faces are not shown, only their backs are seen from behind. The gloomy atmosphere around adds to the drama of the story.
According to the announcement, “The Priests 2: Dark Nuns” will be released in theaters on January 24, 2025. The film marks Song Hye Kyo's return to Korean cinema after a decade, since “My Brilliant Life” (2014).
After the success of the revenge film "The Glory" with a series of prestigious acting awards, the next role that Song Hye Kyo chose attracted public attention.
In an interview with Elle, the actress said she wanted to challenge herself with new things, showing an increasingly better version of herself.
Talking about "Dark Nuns", Song Hye Kyo shared: "I'm not a big fan of the mystery genre, but my mom really likes it, so I've been familiar with it since I was little.
I didn’t want my next project after “The Glory” to be a love story. Luckily, right at that moment, I came across “Dark Nuns”.
Watching myself fight on screen feels new and refreshing, and I'm excited to discover a new side of myself through completing this challenge.”
