Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has told supporters after his successful US election campaign that he does not like to go to war.
The 45th and possibly 47th president of the United States has declared victory as projections show him winning more than 270 electoral votes to secure the White House seat in the US presidential election on November 5, 2024.
Donald Trump pledged that his second administration would usher in a "new golden age of America."
While his celebratory speech focused on domestic policies, Mr Trump also said the country needed "a strong and powerful military but ideally we don't have to use our military".
During his first term from 2017 to 2021, Mr. Trump declared “no war” in the sense that the US was hardly involved in any new major armed conflicts.
"Four years we have not had a war, except we defeated ISIS, we defeated ISIS in record time," Trump said, referring to the international military campaign in the Middle East against the terrorist organization ISIS.
"I will not start a war. I will stop wars," Mr. Trump added.
Mr Trump has repeatedly stated that he would end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine “within 24 hours”, if elected, potentially even before he officially takes office as president.
Although the Trump administration sent weapons to Ukraine before the conflict escalated, Trump himself was no longer in the Oval Office when Russia announced its proposal to resolve the escalating tensions in December 2021, RT reported.
Mr Trump has never publicly announced his alleged plan to end the conflict in Ukraine. It is widely believed that he intends to pressure Moscow and Kiev into making concessions.
The Russian government has said it will not accept any resolution that simply freezes the status quo without addressing the root causes of the confrontation.
