On the evening of December 1, Rose (Blackpink) appeared as a guest on JTBC’s “Newsroom.” During the show, she shared about the production process of the song “APT.” and filming the MV with American artist Bruno Mars.
Regarding the reason for composing the song “APT.”, the Blackpink singer said: “It was really a time when I didn’t know where to start. There were so many genres I wanted to try. I like upbeat melodies, but I also like ballads, and in the middle of that, I recorded this song. I thought this was definitely one of the genres I wanted to try.”
Rose has many compliments for Bruno Mars' talent as well as his help in the production of her solo album.
“He was amazing. Bruno helped me a lot and inspired me. He gave me a lot of advice and became a good colleague when I released my first album.
Bruno is also my vocal coach. When I was recording, I was still choking, but he guided me directly. So I sang along, screaming loudly. Seeing him personally demonstrate his voice during the recording was an unforgettable moment" - the singer said about Bruno.
In addition, according to Rose's revelation, Bruno Mars was the one who contributed many ideas for the MV "APT.".
“Bruno had a clear idea. He sent me a reference video and said, ‘It would be nice if the background was pink,’ and he was imagining this kind of world, starting with the costumes. I learned a lot.
He also offered to wave the Korean flag. He bought it while on tour. I thought the Korean audience would love it.”
Notably, the scene where Rose kisses Bruno Mars on the cheek in the MV “APT.” was actually Bruno's suggestion.
“Bruno Mars asked me to kiss him. There’s a story behind it. The kiss scene fits the lyrics. But at first I objected, ‘Why do you have to do that?’ He laughed and said, ‘It would be weirder if you did that,’ so I decided to do it,” Rose shared.
Rose (Blackpink)'s full album "rosie" consists of 12 songs, and will be released on December 6. Of which, there are 2 previously released songs: "APT." and "Number one girl".
Regarding the meaning of the album, Rose confided: “My friends and family call me Rosie. From the beginning of writing this album, I wanted to write music that was true to me. I thought that if it made me feel comfortable when I listened to it, maybe it would comfort others too. So I hope it becomes an album that many people can relate to.”
