Singer and actress Selena Gomez is facing a lawsuit related to Wondermind, a mental health company co-founded by her mother Mandy Teefey and businesswoman Daniella Pierson.
According to the lawsuit, 5 investors poured about 1.2 million USD into Wondermind in 2022. They argue that the investment was made based on inaccurate information about operations, business plans and the role of the founders.
Wondermind was founded in 2021, aiming to provide content and tools to help users pay more attention to mental health. Selena Gomez holds the role of co-founder, while also in charge of marketing and social impact activities.
Investors believe that Selena Gomez once pledged to actively participate in building Wondermind as a marketing leader. However, according to the lawsuit, the female singer then did not fully fulfill the committed obligations.
The lawsuit also mentioned many business plans introduced by Wondermind to investors. Including cooperation agreements with large businesses, advertising contracts, content with celebrities and plans to develop a mental health application.
However, investors accuse these plans of not becoming reality. They argue that the previously introduced cooperation agreements do not exist, advertising contracts have not been implemented, and applications have never been built.
According to the lawsuit, Wondermind was valued at 95 million USD in 2022, when the investor group poured money into the company. After that, the business was said to have fallen into financial and operational difficulties.
Investors accuse Wondermind of having problems paying employees and partners, but they are not fully informed about the company's situation. The group said it only learned about Wondermind's serious difficulties after an investigative article was published in 2025.
Issues related to Wondermind's operations and management were also mentioned in the lawsuit. Daniella Pierson, co-founder of the company and former executive, left Wondermind in 2023. She denied the allegations against her and said she was willing to provide financial records to clarify.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez rejected the fraud charges. Lawyer Mathew Rosengart affirmed that the allegations that the female singer was involved in fraud or wrongdoing are unfounded in both fact and law. Gomez's side said it would request the court to reject the charges against her.
The lawsuit requires the parties involved to return about 1.2 million USD of investment, and compensate for damages and pay legal costs.
The charges are currently only mentioned in the lawsuit file and have not been concluded by the court. Selena Gomez and related people will have the opportunity to present evidence and arguments to protect their rights during the proceedings.
