Actress Son Ye Jin is preparing to return with the movie No Other Choice directed and co-written by Park Chan Wook.
"No Other Choice" tells the story of Man Soo (Lee Byung Hun), an office worker who was very satisfied with his life, until he was suddenly fired. Man Soo must start a new job, protect his wife, two children and their new home.
Son Ye Jin plays Miri, Man Soo's wife. She is a reasonable woman, always steadfast in all situations. Despite having to give up her personal interests and make a living amid the sudden financial difficulties, she still maintains a positive attitude. Instead of scolding, she stayed by her husband's side to comfort him, trying to preserve the family.
Talking about her experience working with Park Chan Wook - who won the Best Director award at the Cannes International Film Festival, and her veteran co-star Lee Byung Hun, Son Ye Jin confessed that she felt like a "rookie" on set.
I dont have a specific idea of what I want to express through the character Miri. Man Soo is a character with a lot of depth and range, so my role is just a small supporting role, appearing obscure.
But that alone has meaning for me and it is very interesting. If the audience can see even a little new potential of me in this project, I will be extremely satisfied, the actress modestly shared.
Hearing that, director Park Chan Wook denied it: "She was lying. Ye Jin has watched the film, so it is not true that she only plays a small role. She is the main character in the second half of the film.
I admired her since The Classic, at that time Ye Jin was a lovely character. This time, she is a mature character, becoming more and more decisive, strict and even scary.
Also at the press conference, Son Ye Jin made the whole hall laugh when sharing a witty story behind the scenes.
The actress said that it took her nearly 3 months to practice dancing, but in the end, all of these scenes were cut. Director Park Chan Wook has flatly criticized her unsatisfactory dancing skills.

Son Ye Jin married Hyun Bin in March 2022 and gave birth to her first son in November of the same year. Her most recent project was the drama Age of 39, while Son Ye Jin has not acted in a film since The Life-and-Dying negotiations in 2018.
Regarding the reason for choosing No Other Choice as a comeback project, Son Ye Jin shared, The biggest reason is because I wanted to collaborate with director Park Chan Wook, and because senior Lee Byung Hun was chosen. I think I would regret not participating in this project.
The beauty born in 1982 continued to confide: "This is my first project since giving birth, so I think my instinct as a mother has helped me a lot.
I used to play a divorced mother and a divorced woman, but I felt that nothing could compare to real life experience. I feel very natural when acting with the children.
No Other Choice is scheduled to premiere in September. The work was selected as the opening film of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and the opening film of the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
