JTBCs drama My Youth, which premiered on September 5, is recording a gloomy rating.
According to Nielsen Korea, episode 1 opened with 2.9%, then dropped to 2.8% in episode 2.2, 2.2% in episode 3 and 2.4% in episode 4. Notably, the episode aired on September 19 only reached 1.9%, marking a disastrous record low.
Amid this situation, attention is focused on whether the love story between Seon Woo Hae (Song Joong Ki) and Sung Je Yeon (Chun Woo Hee) can create a boost, helping viewership ratings improve.
In the most recent episode, Seon Woo Hae faced a surprising incident. He was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare disease in Korea. According to the doctor, he could not live long, causing Woo Hae to be extremely confused.
It was Sung Je Yeon who made him smile when at the end of the episode, she confessed her feelings. Woo Hae responded with a bright smile and confessed: "This world seems to be getting a little more beautiful"/
Despite his serious illness and uncertain future, Seon Woo Hae still smiled when he listened to the confession from Sung Je Yeon's "first love". However, that joy did not last long, because Woo Hae quickly lost that smile.
Je Yeon also struggles with Woo Hae's gloomy atmosphere, avoiding looking straight into his eyes. The rare moments when the two touched each other's eyes only further revealed the insecurity and confusion in both of their emotions.
In episode 6, Seon Woo Hae visits his father, Seon Woo Chan (played by Jo Han Chul). At first, Seon Woo Chan seemed happy to see his son again, but that joy quickly fading away when he was confused by Woo Hae's anger. What makes the audience curious is finally what Woo Hae, who has never begged or complained about his father, will say in this first meeting.
My Youth was highly anticipated before its broadcast, especially when Song Joong Ki returned to the romantic film genre after 9 years.
Fans and audiences are looking forward to the collaboration between him and Chun Woo Hee, but up to now, the film has not been able to meet expectations.
