Korean netizens are having a heated discussion on the online forum Pann Nate about a post regarding the contract dispute between the members of girl group NewJeans and ADOR Company (under HYBE Group).
Recently, on the Chinese social network Weibo, new advertising images of the Calvin Klein brand with models being NewJeans members have been spread.
But what caught attention was that the group name “NewJeans” did not appear in the images like before. Instead, Calvin Klein directly wrote the names of the 5 members “Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein”.
Previously, ADOR announced on January 13 that they had filed a petition with the Seoul Central District Court for a temporary restraining order against the members of the group NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) to maintain ADOR's management company status and NewJeans was not allowed to sign an advertising contract.
This order is a measure by ADOR to prevent NewJeans members from entering into advertising contracts without ADOR's consent, or from engaging in advertising activities without ADOR's consent.
ADOR further noted that they sought the injunction because NewJeans members were attempting to contact brands, labels or third parties to sign independent contracts, which could cause confusion and damage to third parties.
However, Calvin Klein's move has led to ADOR being ridiculed. Many viewers believe that ADOR's ban on NewJeans "has no effect".
On the other hand, some viewers criticized NewJeans members for suspecting this as an act of non-compliance with contractual obligations.
In addition, some viewers questioned the authenticity of the above promotional images. Because they were leaked from the Weibo account of NewJeans fans and have not been posted on any official Calvin Klein platform.
Meanwhile, ADOR announced NewJeans as Calvin Klein's Global Ambassadors starting September 24, 2024. The group has appeared in the brand's advertising campaign, and was sponsored to be on the cover of Billboard Korea Magazine.
5 NewJeans members announced the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR from November 29, 2024.
