Recently, the famous American magazine Vanity Fair released its 31st special edition "Hollywood Issue".
Notably, Kpop idol Lisa (Blackpink) appeared with 11 famous Hollywood actors including Zendaya, Glen Powell, Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel, Sydney Sweeney, Josh O’Connor, Danielle Deadwyler, Jonathan Bailey, Ncuti Gatwa and Bill Skarsgård.
“These are the boldest actors who make Hollywood tick and delight audiences,” Vanity Fair noted. “Vanity Fair highlights the 12 best performers of the year.”
Introducing Lisa, the prestigious magazine wrote: “A popular K-pop artist with the group Blackpink, Lisa will make her acting debut in her native Thailand in season 3 of HBO’s thrilling comedy “The White Lotus.” A promising new path for the rapper, singer and model with undeniable charisma.”
However, Lisa's appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair has received mixed reviews. On the Korean online community theqoo, viewers are debating the topic.
Many comments said that Lisa did not deserve to appear next to the Hollywood stars, because she had not officially debuted as an actress. Meanwhile, the other 11 faces all had acting experience, outstanding careers and works.
Previously, there were two Korean actors on the cover of Vanity Fair's "Hollywood Issue", Park So Dam in 2020 and Jung Ho Yeon in 2023. But they were both people who had outstanding works.
Park So Dam starred in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” (2019). Jung Ho Yeon starred in Netflix’s top-grossing series “Squid Game” (2021).
The movie “The White Lotus 3” will be released in 2025, and it is not yet certain whether Lisa’s debut role will be successful or not.
Some comments were sarcastic, Lisa was on the cover of Vanity Fair only because of Blackpink's reputation and achievements in music and fashion, not acting.
Some other comments even hinted that Lisa got her role in “The White Lotus 3” and was on the cover of a major magazine thanks to her relationship with rumored boyfriend Frederic Arnault - one of the heirs of the Chairman of LVMH luxury group, billionaire Bernard Arnault.
However, some people said: "This edition also picks actors who need a little PR. So I don't think Lisa's participation is a problem."
Lisa's fans also defended her, explaining that this Vanity Fair "Hollywood Issue" is for 2025.
The edition not only celebrates the cast's past achievements, but also introduces some of their new roles and films being produced and released in 2025. For example, Zendaya with "The Drama", Zoe Saldaña with "Avatar: Fire and Ash"...
On the other hand, “The White Lotus” is a hit HBO series that had two successful first seasons, so it was necessary for the producers to invest in promoting Lisa before season 3.
