Prisoner becomes best actress

Recently, Zhao Xiao Hong won the Best Actress award (Silver cover award) at the 73rd San Sebastian International Film Festival.

She is the 3rd Chinese actress in history to win this award, after Ninh Tinh (in 1994) and Pham Bang Bang (in 2016).

Zhao Xiao Hong won the award for her role as a mother in the film Her Heart Beats in Its Cage directed by Qin Xiaoyou.

On the closing stage of the San Sebastian Festival, Trieu Tieu Hong shared: "I never thought I would win this award. I want to thank myself for not giving up on myself during difficult and desperate times. I would like to share this honor and happiness with my son, currently in China. I love you.

This is Zhao Xiao Hong's first film, but she won an acting award at an A-list international film festival.

The special award is meaningful because the actors in the film are inspired by the real life story of Zhao Xiao Hong, focusing on women's self-redemption and healing of family love.

In the past, Zhao Xiao Hong accidentally murdered her husband for resisting domestic violence and was sentenced to prison. After being released from prison, she tried to receive her son's forgiveness and heal her feelings for her family.

In Her Heart Beats in Its Cage, Zhao Xiao Hong, her son and grandmother directly participated in acting, recreating a difficult but also hopeful journey.

According to the revelation, the film has been in preparation for 7 years with hundreds of interviews with prisoners.

At the press conference, director Qin Xiaoyou shared: Zhao Xiaoyun has shown admirable courage in recounting her story. She, her son and her grandmother are real characters, they are playing their own roles.

Zhao Xiao Hong confided: Although I have been released from prison for a while, I have encountered many difficulties, so I decided to go for therapy, something that is not popular in China. Finally, my relationship with my son has become more balanced.

According to the media, this year is a year of great revenue for Chinese cinema at international film festivals.

Previously, Tan Chi Loi won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival, director Tat Cong was awarded the Special Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and Hoac Manh won the Best Director award at the Berlin Film Festival.

Recently, Thu Ky won the Best Director award at the Busan Film Festival with her debut film Girl, while the Chinese film Gloaming in Luomu won the Best Film award at this film festival.
