After a shocking slapping on stage at the 2022 Oscar awards ceremony, Will Smith won the Oscar for Best Actor.
Will Smith won the role of Richard Williams, father of the Williams tennis sisters, in the biographical film King Richards. This is the third time Smith has received a nomination for appearing in a biographical film.
In his acceptance speech, the actor could not hold back his tears. After thanking the character models and film crew, he also apologized for the recent incident.
Just a few minutes before, when the 94th Academy Awards were broadcast live, actor Will Smith went on stage to hit MC Chris Rock in the face.
While awarding the Best Documentary category (in the category of "Summer of soul"), Rock joked about Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith shaved his head. Rock also joked that he was eager to meet Smith's wife in "GI Jane 2".
Pinkett Smith was sitting with her husband in the guest seats at the time. She seemed quite confused by this joke.
At first, Smith still smiled, but then he stood up, went straight to the stage and hit Rock in the face.
The organizers turned off the sound, but the audience could still see Smith warning Rock: "Don't mention my wife's name."
For their part, Rock was quite shocked by Smith's reaction but quickly continued to introduce the next items.
Denzel Washington, Bradley Cooper and Tyler Perry were present to comfort Smith after the incident.
