Information from the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2026), the Vietnamese national team participating in IChO 2026 including 4 students achieved excellent results with 4 Gold Medals.
In terms of the number of Gold Medals, the Vietnamese delegation ranked first with the countries: China, India.
4 Vietnamese students won Gold Medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2026) including:
Nguyen Manh Tuan, 12th grade student, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi city.
Nguyen The Minh, a 12th grade student, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi city.
Tran Hoang Nam, a 12th grade student, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi city.
Dinh Xuan Phuc, a 12th grade student at Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted, Phu Tho province.
This result continues to affirm the position of the Vietnamese team in the group of countries with top achievements (top 1-3) at the International Chemistry Olympiad arena, and at the same time extends the series of impressive achievements in recent years. In the period 2020-2026, the Vietnamese team won 25 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals out of a total of 28 student participants - one of Vietnam's outstanding achievements at IChO events.
IChO 2026 is held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from July 10 to 19, 2026, with the participation of 368 excellent high school students from 93 countries and territories. Contestants compete in two contents including theory and practice, each test lasting 5 hours, thereby comprehensively demonstrating professional knowledge, scientific thinking, problem analysis and resolution capacity, and precision chemical experimentation skills.
The content of the exams at IChO 2026 is built in a modern orientation, associated with advanced fields of chemistry and materials science: ammonia production, nuclear chemistry, CO2 reuse, .... The exam questions not only assess the level of chemical knowledge proficiency but also focus on chemical cognitive ability, the ability to apply knowledge to explain natural phenomena, production processes and technical and technological issues.
At the same time, the exams require candidates to analyze and process information, build scientific arguments and learn and solve problems from a chemical perspective, thereby comprehensively reflecting thinking ability and the ability to apply knowledge to practice.
The achievements of the Vietnamese Team at IChO 2026 contribute to concretizing the Party's guidelines on developing education, training, science, technology and innovation in the spirit of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, and at the same time create motivation to continue developing high-quality human resources in the field of chemistry and science and technology of the country.
