On September 9, Hanoi Medical University organized Match Day 2026 - Registration Day for Resident Doctor training major course 51 (2026-2029).
According to information from the school, the 2026 resident doctor enrollment exam has 1,114 registered candidates, from 18 training institutions in health sectors nationwide.
After the exam, 780 candidates reached the quality assurance threshold (floor score), meeting the conditions to participate in Match Day.
Meanwhile, the total enrollment target for resident doctors approved this year is 444, allocated to 37 training programs in the clinical, paraclinical and basic medicine sectors.
At Match Day, contestants are named in the correct order of the public total score ranking, from highest to lowest. People with higher rankings have the right to choose their major first.
The selection process and the remaining targets of each major are updated in real time on the system and displayed on the central screen.
As soon as the final target of a major is selected by the candidate, the computer system will automatically lock that major. Therefore, towards the end, the scope of major selection of candidates may be narrowed depending on the remaining targets.
Candidates' choices are only officially effective after directly signing confirmation on the Major Registration Book. After Match Day ended, Hanoi Medical University said it would not accept or resolve requests to change majors.
According to the school, the Match Day model has been applied and maintained since 2016. The public disclosure of rankings, targets and the process of selecting majors in real time is to ensure publicity and transparency in admissions, and at the same time help accurately determine the list of admitted students immediately after the event ends.
This year's resident doctor recruitment exam includes 3 exam sessions. The assessment content includes clinical subjects such as Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Emergency and basic medicine subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Embryology, Pathology.
Hanoi Medical University was assigned by the Ministry of Health to train resident doctors from 1974. According to school data, after 52 years, the school has trained more than 6,000 resident doctors.
Match Day 2026 takes place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on September 9. At the end of the event, the list of 444 new resident doctors of course 51 (2026-2029) is expected to be established.
The first person to be named at Match Day 2026 will be Dr. Nguyen Van Manh - valedictorian of this year's resident doctor exam.
Before making the decision, Manh shared with Lao Dong reporters that his choice of major was based on two main criteria: passion, personal preferences and career development opportunities in the future.
