Wide Job Opportunities
After many years of research, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology has officially launched the Game Design and Development program. Assessing the potential of the industry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Anh - Deputy Director of the Institute, stated that the game industry in Vietnam is developing very strongly.
“When building this program, we worked with Vietnam's game associations and state management units such as the Broadcasting Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and found that the social demand for this industry is very high. However, in Vietnam, the workforce in the industry mainly comes from related fields such as Information Technology and Graphic Design.
The Institute's introduction of the Game Design and Development program will train specialized human resources, addressing the shortage of manpower,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Anh.
Sharing the same view, MSc. Nguyen Duc Hoang - Head of Multimedia Research and Development Department, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology - believes that graduates of the Game Design and Development program have wide job opportunities.
“Currently, the Institute has signed cooperation agreements with many game companies both domestically and internationally, including two major game companies in Vietnam, VNG and Appota.
We want to create the best learning and practice conditions for students, helping them connect with businesses during their studies. At this point, job opportunities become very open as businesses can access and orient potential employees early,” said MSc. Nguyen Duc Hoang.
Attractive Benefits
Vietnam is considered a gaming powerhouse in the region, ranking 7th globally and 2nd in Southeast Asia in terms of game downloads; the number of online game players reaches 20.4 million. According to Dr. Cao Minh Thang - Deputy Director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, the game industry workforce can receive "huge" benefits.
“Graduates specializing in game training can apply for positions such as game development experts, game testing experts, and game system operators. They can even start their own businesses with game products they create.
The starting salary for game design and development positions ranges from 10-20 million VND/month. Depending on their capabilities and positions, after 2-3 years, the salary can reach up to 50 million VND/month,” shared Dr. Cao Minh Thang.
In an interview with Lao Dong Newspaper, MSc. Nguyen Duc Hoang said: “The benefits in the game industry are relatively open. For example, my friend, when he returned to Vietnam to open a game development company, received a very high salary, potentially reaching billions of VND per year.”
Criteria for Learners
Currently, the Game Design and Development program at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology trains for two main positions: Game Designer - game script designer and Game Developer - game programmer. Students will study for 4 years, 8 semesters with 135 credits.
“Our curriculum is carefully researched, learning from game training programs worldwide. Additionally, we work with major game companies, corporations, and studios in Vietnam to build a program that combines global academic elements with Vietnam's development conditions,” shared MSc. Nguyen Duc Hoang.
According to MSc. Nguyen Duc Hoang, to study and stick with the Game Design and Development program, students need to meet certain criteria. Mr. Hoang stated: “First, students need to be serious and diligent in their studies. This is a necessary condition for any field of study. Second, this is a technology-related field, so technology and logic skills are essential for students to hone.
The admission combinations for the Game Design and Development program are A00, A01, and D01. Therefore, students need to have strengths in natural sciences, especially Mathematics.
The third factor is creativity to develop fun and engaging games that meet public tastes.”
