The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) is drafting a Circular amending and supplementing the regulations on secondary school and high school admissions, replacing Circular No. 11 of 2014 of the ministry and requesting the Departments of Education and Training to organize the collection of opinions from general education institutions on a number of related contents.
In particular, for 10th grade admission, the Ministry of Education and Training offers two options: admission by review or entrance exam:
If considering admission, the basis for consideration is the training results and learning results of the years of general education program at secondary level or continuing education program at secondary level of the applicant. If the student repeats a grade, the results of the repeated year of that grade will be used.
If choosing to take the entrance exam, the Department of Education and Training will organize an exam with three subjects: Math, Literature and one randomly drawn subject from the new curriculum. This subject will be announced before March 31 every year. Students who take the entrance exam for specialized schools will take the corresponding specialized subject.
The organizers of the draw include: leaders of the Department of Education and Training, representatives of the leaders of the departments under the department, inspectors and other relevant members invited by the department. The minutes of the draw must be signed by the participating members.
2025 is the first year that the 10th grade exam will be held according to the new General Education Program. Compared to the old program, many subjects are taught in an integrated manner such as History - Geography and Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
Therefore, the orientation of the exam questions, content and number of subjects are of interest to many parents and candidates.
Ms. Trinh Thi Minh Ngoc (Hoang Mai, Hanoi) - a parent whose child is taking the 10th grade entrance exam this year - feels worried about the above information. According to Ms. Ngoc, this year's 9th grade students face many disadvantages when studying under the new program at a time when the epidemic is tense, affecting their studies.
"In Hanoi, the 10th grade entrance exam is very stressful and fierce. The announcement of the third exam subject at the end of March - only about 2 months before the exam takes place. This will increase the pressure on the children. It is best to keep the 3 subjects of Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. If a fourth subject is required, it is best to make it an elective subject," said Ms. Ngoc.
