Keep or abandon the option of considering academic records?
In particular, with the admission method based on high school transcripts, the Ministry of Education and Training offers two options: remove or continue to use.
According to statistics from the Ministry, this year, this method accounts for 42.4%, considering the high school graduation exam score as 39.1%, the rest are other methods.
For many years, considering academic records has always been the main method used by many higher education institutions because schools have the right to be autonomous in admission because the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training do not prohibit it. However, this form of admission is controversial.
Many experts believe that this method causes unfairness because there can be a situation of "beautifying" transcripts and negativity. Each locality, each school, the assessment method and transcript scores may be different, leading to unfairness. Considering admission with many academic records also pushes up the admission score based on high school graduation exam results.
Limit admission wishes
In addition to the option of considering transcripts, the Ministry of Education and Training also collects opinions on the number of wishes for each candidate with three options, including: Maximum 5, 10 wishes or continue to not limit the number of wishes as at present.
This year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, about 852,000 candidates registered for admission with 7.6 million wishes. The number of registrations with 5 wishes or less is nearly 40%, nearly 31% of registrations with 10 from 5 to 10 wishes. The rest were registered over 10.
Allowing candidates to register without limiting their wishes helps increase their chances of being admitted, reducing pressure, but overloading the admission software.
This year, universities use 17 admission methods. All are considered at the same time, after candidates know the high school graduation exam scores, instead of early admission with some methods like previous years.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, out of more than 1.16 million students taking the high school graduation exam this year, about 310,000 students are not considered for admission to universities and colleges, accounting for nearly 27%.
Regarding the admission scores of 6 majors with absolute admission scores are English Pedagogy and Chinese Pedagogy, both at Hue University and the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; International Relations of the Academy of Military Sciences; Medicine of the Military Medical Academy.
Immediately after the first admission round, the schools announced additional considerations, mainly based on transcripts and graduation exam scores. Additional admission period until December.
