Tran Khanh Linh, an 11th grade student in Binh Dong ward, said that this decision is a positive change.
"If their studies are suspended, it will be very difficult for students to keep up with their studies and feel separated from the group. The new way is more humane, giving students the opportunity to correct their mistakes, instead of feeling inferior," Khanh Linh shared.
Many other students also agree and assess that removing temporary suspension helps students not be eliminated from the educational environment, thereby limiting the risk of dropping out of school.
However, there are still students who are concerned that if they only stop at the form of review or commitment, they can "resist the law" and re-offend.
From a parent's perspective, Mr. Tran Minh Hung (parent of Khanh Linh) also expressed his support: "Study suspension sometimes puts students in a deadlock, feeling abandoned. Giving them the opportunity to stay at school and receive support to correct their mistakes is a reasonable approach".
However, Mr. Hung is also worried that the form of discipline according to the new regulations may not be enough of a deterrent, which could make students take discipline lightly and make it difficult to maintain classroom discipline.
According to Circular 19/2025/TT-BGDDT, which officially took effect from October 31, disciplinary measures of excluding students from classes and schools such as temporary suspension, school dismissal, and warning in advance for the whole school will be abolished. Instead, the highest disciplinary level for students who violate the discipline is only to write a self-criticism, with confirmation and commitment from the family.
Mr. Kim Bao, a teacher at a high school in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the new regulation is aimed at humanity, giving students the opportunity to correct their mistakes, but is still concerned about the lack of tools to handle serious violations.
Mr. Hoang Duc Minh - Director of the Student Department - Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) said that currently, in the spirit of educational innovation, taking students as the center, schools are aiming to build safe, healthy and friendly schools.
In that spirit, disciplinary measures in the new context are considered educational measures, aiming to remove previous sanctions and shift to a focus on education to regulate behavior.
