Previously, the 10th grade exam was planned by the locality, including the number of subjects. However, 2025 is the first year that students graduate under the new general education program, so the Ministry of Education and Training has issued new regulations on junior high school and high school admissions, unified nationwide.
Accordingly, for admission to grade 10, localities can choose to conduct entrance exams, admission reviews, or a combination of entrance exams and admission reviews.
If taking the entrance exam, the exam includes Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined exam). This subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but a subject cannot be selected for more than 3 consecutive years.
Currently, some provinces and cities have informed about the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025. In Can Tho City alone, English was chosen as the third subject.
Recently, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City has implemented many solutions to improve the quality of education in schools, contributing to raising the admission scores for grade 10 students in the area.
Previously, in 2024, the admission score for grade 10 in Can Tho tended to increase. Schools in the mid-range group such as Nguyen Viet Hong High School, Phan Ngoc Hien High School and Nguyen Viet Dung High School... all increased by 2-5 points compared to 2023.
This is an effort of the whole industry to improve the quality of education, narrowing the gap in education quality between schools. At the same time, the work of streaming and career orientation for students has also been effective.
